GOLDFIELDS LIBRARY in Bendigo, Victoria  is undergoing renovations. It will be most interesting to see the end result. My father doesn't like the idea of the new RFID self check out - I'm hoping that once he has used it a few times then it won't matter :)

June 2014 was my final month for my assessments for my Grad Dip of Information Studies. With my placement and study visit reports completed I now wait for the end of the year. At the end of year I can GRADUATE!!!

The past two years working full time whilst studying has been intense. Intense in that I have had to manage my time appropriately so that I had minimal experiences of needing to hyperventilate into a paper bag when assignment deadlines loomed. One of the biggest personal experiences I learnt was to be kinder to myself. To give myself more credit but to also dish out 'tough love'.  You know the type of thing I mean. "Study for another hour and then you can watch one episode of Parks and Recreation". Sometimes I even watched two.

Whilst waiting for my graduation I have joined the Australian Library and Information Association. I have been given a membership card which I am proudly carrying around in my purse. I have stopped short of pulling it out and showing it off - well until now ;) I think I need to be proud of it. It has been a big ask these last few years and I have gained new skills and become more excited about where my career could take me.

Taking it to the streets

http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2012/02/books_move_fast_out_of_syracus.html

Libraries are found within bricks and mortar and in public spaces such as the used phone box as in the above article. Making books available in such public situations is a fantastic way to reach a more broader audience. At my workplace we have a book lending shelf which is frequently accessed and I love finding new books that I have to add to my 'to read list'

Sydney NSW Travels

My Mum and I recently travelled to Sydney for the first time. On my list of places to visit where:

1. State Library of NSW http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/ where the unsettling mask of Henry Lawson is on display.

2. Australian National Maritime Museum http://www.anmm.gov.au/site/page.cfm in particiular the Ansell Adams exhibit

3. A tour of the Sydeny Theatre Company http://www.sydneytheatre.com.au/your-visit/tours.aspx

Needless to say we had a busy time and it was wonderful. I was most excited by the Sydney Theatre tour where we were taken backstage and shown the various departments that make the productions so wonderful. I was also fascintated by the fact that the Theatre had employed an archivist!
